Rheudasil park
Flower Mound, Texas

Rheudasil Park, named after the Town of Flower Mound’s first mayor Bob Rheudasil, is an existing neighborhood park nestled within a large greenway of connected municipal parks and civic facilities and schools. The park is known for its scenic lake, which serves as the primary focal point while the program features have historically been adjacent to the edges of the park. The design team was tasked to create an iconic park to serve the community while preserving its historic program needs. Studio Outside proposed a series of biofiltration gardens along the storm lines to the lake that create opportunities to clean the water while also visually demonstrating the story of water within a larger greenway and flood system. The hub of the park is the pavilion and restroom building. The pavilion was placed at a lower elevation while architectural concrete walls wrapped their arms out into the landscape to form a prairie berm and buffer. The combination of the walls and elevational differences allow the pedestrian to descend to the lake while ascending a prairie berm for visual continuity to the origination storyline of the Town. Program features surrounding the pavilion and prairie walls create a central area of activity for all ages. Nature-inspired playgrounds, preserved shade trees, fishing boardwalks, biofiltration gardens, sand play, and picnicking create a scenic and protected area, all while capitalizing on the central lake feature.
