Sea star Base Galveston
Galveston, Texas

Sea Star Base Galveston, the third such base in the United States and the only base on the Gulf Coast, is a LEED Platinum project designed for hurricane winds, flooding and saltwater intrusion and will stand the test of time and elements over the next century. From the outset, the Project’s donors set out to build an urban sailing camp on a precious few acres (4) on Galveston Bay with an equal area of 4 acres of facilities in the water. The project sets a remarkable example of how to construct a resilient landscape and urban palette for educational uses within its own community and nationally. The landscape architects led the site work design team that included civil and structural engineers, architects, marine specialists, local ecologists, and three client user groups by shepherding conservative use of space for function and recreation, launching sail craft and providing superior outdoor education space within a landscape that will totally hold up long term.
