AT&T Discovery District
Dallas, Texas
The AT&T Discovery District is located at the heart of the Central Business District within the dense urban fabric of Downtown Dallas. This plaza formally served as a transient space for employees as they entered and exited each building. After the campus revitalization, the AT&T Discovery District acts as a multi-dimensional, interactive space for employees, downtown residents, visitors, and tourists from across the world. The Plaza acts as the heartbeat of the CBD and connects the Dallas Arts District to the Civic Center, a missing link that activates a portion of downtown that has laid dormant and promotes new economic development opportunities south of Dallas City Hall.
The elegant fountain wall greets plaza visitors at Commerce Street and guides the user through a procession of spaces and experiences throughout the campus and terminates at the iconic Spirit of Communication statue along Wood Street. As the backbone of The Plaza design, the fountain maintains consistency and simplicity to counterbalance the myriad of activities and evolving experiences within the plaza. The fountain design acts as an art piece and the individual fountain nozzles are illuminated to emulate votive candles. The fountain provides a calming ambiance for the surrounding restaurants and creates a subtle boundary between the dining and lawn areas.
